Hecate Spell. Hecate or Hekate is a goddess in ancient Greek religion and mythology, most often shown holding

a pair of torches, a key, snakes, or accompanied by dogs, and in later periods depicted as three-formed or

triple-bodied.The goddess possessed extensive powers, which were later assimilated by other deities. Hecate

could bestow wealth and blessings on her worshippers, yet she could also withhold these gifts if she were not

adequately worshipped.

Hecate, a goddess accepted at an early date into Greek religion but probably derived from the Carians in

southwest Asia Minor. In Hesiod she is the daughter of the Titan Persse and the nymph Asteria and has power

over heaven, earth, and sea; hence, she bestows wealth and all the blessings of daily life.

The three forms or three women that Hecate appears as (not the one woman with three heads on one body) a

young maiden (the virign), a crone (the witch), and a mother.
